Welcome

Welcome to the website for the British Association of Applied Linguistics’ Language, Gender and Sexuality Special Interest Group (BAAL LGaS SIG). On these pages, you can find information about the SIG and its members, as well as our events, awards, and community (including how to get involved).

Our group provides a forum for researchers and other interested professionals to discuss and explore issues of language, gender and sexuality from a range of theoretical, methodological and disciplinary perspectives. We aim to provide a supportive community for researchers with an interest in language, gender and sexuality, and contribute to the development of diverse and innovative research in this field.

Code of conduct: Our SIG stands against all forms of gender- and sexuality-based prejudice, discrimination, violence and hate, including (but not limited to) misogyny, sexism, transphobia, homophobia and biphobia. We take the position that these prejudices are mutually reinforcing, and intersect with other prejudices such as racism, ableism and xenophobia. We support research and practice that seeks to deconstruct, challenge and overturn such injustices and we will not give a platform to, or engage with, any work that goes against these values, whether directly or indirectly.

You can read our code of conduct in full here, and access our event planning and hosting guidelines here.
